Moderator Palmyra PAPosts: 3233 | I'm going out west next summer and will take a camera, hoping it doesn't jinx me. Something small and not too pricey. Any recommendations or warnings?

Administrator Bellevue, WAPosts: 2737 | I've followed the reviews on waterproof point & shoot cameras lately, although I don't have one right now. The Olympus Tough TG-6 seems like the best one right now, and since it came out its predecessors like the TG-5 are probably cheaper and might still be fine for what you want.

Posts: 156 | I have a Canon point and shoot I bought from Best Buy years back, took great pics. I did a bunch of research back then. Top performers were Canon and Nikon. Go figure. There were only a couple waterproof ones when I shopped. I decided against the waterproof because I liked the Canon that much more(had a Canon sir that was great). I also bought they're extended warranty for 2 years. They told me as long as I can produce the camera, if broke no matter how, they would replace it. So, as it was sold to me, get the warranty, then if(when wink) it breaks before the warranty is expired, they will replace with equal value. Digital cameras only get better over time for the same or less money. Sure, I'll take that warranty. That warranty ran in addition to the warranty it came with. I tested how they handled the warranty. Within a couple months I fell in my local stream and swam out. Camera was toast. Took it into Best Buy. Even though the camera was fully dry, they looked at it, 'looks like water damage'. Then they went and grabbed me a brand new one, nothing out of pocket. Never played the game and broke it before the warranty ran out. Good camera still, just outdated now.

Administrator Bellevue, WAPosts: 2737 | Yeah, "accidental drops and spills" warranties are fantastic for anglers, especially if you're not buying a model designed for actual underwater use. They've saved me quite a few times too, although I've never dropped a camera in the river that wasn't meant to go there.
