Posts: 21 | I'm looking for a good digital SLR type camera outfit that will allow me to shoot good pictures for magazine submissions. I've published stories in Fly Rod & Reel and American Angler, but could get more published with pictures. Is there a good basic outfit I can buy, say with a good quality zoom (tell me your preffered lens) and a macro. I'm hoping to get it to two or three lenses. I'm trying to spend under $1000.00. What say ye?

Marquette, MI Posts: 33 | Girlfriend just purchased a Nikon D5000 I believe. From the photos I've received it takes amazing pictures, I think it was about $800. We live on opposite sides of the country so I haven't actually used the camera, but worth checking into.

If body and lens consider looking for a refurb body (canon factory refurb comes with full waranty) that way you can put more $$$$ toward the glass. As for zooms I like sigma and tamron super zooms I used the sigma 18-200 for my ME vacation and loved it although I would advise going with an IS model to extend shooting times and hand hold ability. I can't comment on the Macro side of things as that is an areana I have not yet ventured into. Your milage may vary, JW

Banned MichiganPosts: 115 | sigma as i understand it has a zoom lens with a macro. i remember this from when i bought my traditional slr. i didn't buy the lens with the macro as i didn't see use for it at the time, :( now i'm bummin. i think it was a 80-200mm. then i have a 28-80mm. buy a 2x converter and you should be good for almost anything. i researched at that time quite extensively and found cannon was what i liked.

Banned MichiganPosts: 115 | also, i've said this before. i would buy from best buy and get the 4yr warranty. i've went swimming once while fishing and soaked my camera, they told me to go over to the case and get another, no cost.
