ZZZZAP 'em, boys!
Fish shocking crew in action
First field site, nice pool with some riffle and glide, undercuts, roots...good habitat!
One of the fish hauls...total for the trip, 387 fish of 13 species, total weight captured 2.44 kg = 5.4 pounds!
Benthic sampling now...get in there you bugs!!!
Side-by-side "replicate" sampling...the bottom is so heterogenous that there's no "replication", it's all just more samples!
"Invert and squirt"! Getting the gunk & any attached bugs off the sampling net
Benthos collecting jars set up while the fish shocking crew zaps up some more
"C'mon, fishie, you can shake off that electricity!"
Not exactly the ugliest place I've ever worked! Pure nature, pretty unimpacted except for the occasional dud artillery shell or rocket tail assembly...and the A-10 Warthogs!
Eastern box turtle, on the list for Indiana as of Special Concern...I haven't seen one since I was in Missouri in 1997!

Posts: 2611 | Went back down to our pretty little stream last week and collected more fish, bugs, and this time, periphyton! I have a summer worth of work cut out for me...enjoy the pics, and note that I'm getting paid good money to do this!

| No matter how big the one you just caught is, there's always a bigger one out there somewhere... |
