The appeal of trout fishing is tied to the landscapes in which they live. They need the kind of clean, cold water found mostly in pristine rivers in pristine places that lend themselves to landscape photography. I've begun to take that hobby seriously too, although the best times of day for pictures conflict with the best times for fishing!

The Yellowstone River emerging from Hayden Valley. I briefly hooked and then lost a very nice cutthroat trout here, just a few yards downstream of the boundary above which no fishing is allowed. I wasn't even planning to fish, just stopped to take this picture and saw the big trout rising rhythmically to Paraleptophlebia duns. It was too much to pass up.

The storm approaching in the distance chased my wife and I off the water, and we got set up to sleep in the car just as the heavy winds and lightning really started pounding the valley.
