I kneel on a rock trying to catch brookies in a waterfall pool.
I try to find a brookie in a beautiful, clear pool, but with no luck.
I took some neat underwater pictures of
salamander larvae in this pool a few weeks earlier.
Lena works on her casting.
I like this little moss-bottomed trickle of a tributary.
Lena fishes a brookie hole.
I've caught several brookies in this hole, although on the day of this photograph I found none.
Unsuccessfully trying to find a brookie. Maybe it would help if I was looking at the fly.
Lena casting.
Lena fishing a nice hole.
Lena sneaks up on some alleged brook trout which gave no sign of their presence to either one of us.
Lena wading across the riffle to catch up with me.
I caught a nice brookie a few weeks earlier in this pool at the junction of a split channel in the stream. The huge fallen tree is great cover.
Here's the official first trout brought to hand with my new small-stream rod, an Orvis Superfine 7' 4-weight. It's an appropriate fish from an appropriate water.

Lena's first trout on the fly -- a heavily colored male brookie of a respectable size for his tiny stream. I left her with the rod and a nymph and walked downstream to man the camera, then I turned around and she was waving this trout around in the air. A pleasant surprise!

Lena unceremoniously releases her first self-fly-caught trout. It landed safely in its home pool.
I like the unexpected "oops" pictures so much better than normally posed fish!
