Limnephilus externus (Summer Flier Sedge) Caddisfly Nymph

View 1 PicturesThis caddis is one of the most abundant caddisflies in temporary ponds of Glacier Park. The larvae build a round case of detritus (Detritus: Small, loose pieces of decaying organic matter underwater.) and dead plant material that can get quite large.

Insects from the Chena River

Back before I started my first real field season as a graduate student working on Chinook salmon in the Chena River, I took a fun personal trip up to the North Fork just after ice-out (yes, the ice breaks up that late here!) to collect some Alaskan insects to photograph for the site.
